Laura Hall Tesdahl

"Chinese Lanterns" Colored Pencil by Laura Hall Tesdahl, $375

Laura Hall Tesdahl knew she wanted to be a teacher from the earliest age. Children in her neighborhood played outdoor games, while Laura had a classroom set up in the basement and encouraged  the children to "play school." Her talent as an artist remained undiscovered until she took a required art elective in high school. There she found joy in drawing, painting and helping fellow students understand art processes and techniques. With the encouragement of her art teacher, Laura pursued art education at the University of Dayton and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a K-12 teaching certificate. She taught elementary children art in summer camps during college, and high school and middle school art during the first decade of her teaching career.

After her family relocated to Indianapolis,  Laura focused on developing herself as a professional artist. Through a variety of experiences Laura acquired a true appreciation for  the importance of a quality framer, art gallery representation and network of dedicated professional artists.  Laura also discovered that although she loved to paint and draw, she missed the students that she once inspired and challenged. The discovery of her true passion, teaching artists to be artists, she started teaching art lessons in a studio environment. She currently teaches with the experience and passion of a professional artist.

There are many art teachers that are not artists themselves, and just as many artists that are not good teachers.  It only takes one harsh critic to halt an emerging artist on their way to artistic discovery and development. If you have a desire to create and learn, Laura will guide you on your journey. She asks that you only come with an open mind and a desire push yourself beyond a little further into the realm of creativity. Laura has taught a variety of media over the years and varies her media and methods to  introduce her students to a variety of materials and processes.  Her artwork ranges from tight realism inspired by nature to abstract and expressive pieces influenced by music and spirituality. Her relationships with God, family, nature, music, and daily life permeate her work.
