Kathy Blankenheim

"Last Light" Oil Painting by Kathy Blankenheim, $800

Kathy Blankenheim

A local artist, residing in Brownsburg, Indiana, Kathy's paintings reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape and agriculture. Her paintings are characterized by light, color, composition, and loose, bold brushwork. Texture, paint application, and individual brush strokes are what you will notice up close, and from a distance the entire image will come into focus.

A childhood spent camping, boating, hiking and horseback riding gave Kathy a love of the outdoors. Her preferred style is a very energetic “alla prima”, (paintings done in one sitting where paint is applied to the canvas “wet into wet”). Kathy intends for the viewer to experience some of the spirituality she so often finds in nature.

A self -taught artist, Kathy attributes her keen eye for design, balance, light and shadow to her knowledge of photography. Her style by has been influenced by studying with great contemporary artists.  She draws her inspiration from many of the late greats: Valentin Serov, Nicolai Fechin, Berthe Morisot, Lucy Hartrath, John Singer Sargent, T.C. Steele, Edouard Vuillard, Edgar Payne, Tom Thomson, Edward Willis Redfield, and Frederick Mulhaupt.
